Fridays Laugh: Getting a Head

Posted by Kenny Mac | Posted in Laugh It Up | Posted on 30-10-2009

Here is another quick laugh on a good Friday. I was put on to this video this week. It’s a crazy short film by Diesel about  Quique The Head. I have always loved working on projects with Diesel because of how bonkers they are and how much creative freedom their marketing team has. Check this out and happy Friday.

Common and Crew

Posted by Kenny Mac | Posted in My Life & Times | Posted on 20-10-2009

A couple of weeks I get a chance to go hang out with the Homies. We went to Hennessy Artistry featuring Common and Friends. We knew it would be a great show but we weren’t expecting the amount of talent that came on the stage. With in one big performance with no break Common brought on cameos from artist such as LudaCris, De La Soul, The Roots, Heavy D, Naz, Mos Def and Talib, Queen Latifa and Kanye check out some of the performances I was able to catch on my digital (FYI I think I need a Flip).

Common sets it off

So two seconds be for this Common mentioned Kanyes name and the crowd booed. Then Kanye jumped on stage and amazingly everyone changed their minds… LOL

And then my battery died.

Monday’s Inspiration: Out of a College Dorm Room

Posted by Kenny Mac | Posted in Inspiration | Posted on 19-10-2009

Years ago an NYU student and a promoter decided to get into the music business. A young kid from Queens sought them out and with his demo and out of an NYU dorm room history was made. Listen to the story from that kid from Queens.

With a dream and determination anything is possible.

Breakfast with Kenny: Jazzy & Sara

Posted by Kenny Mac | Posted in Breakfast With Kenny | Posted on 13-10-2009

It’s been a while since my last Breakfast with Kenny post. As I was looking through my previous posts I realized I had no female representation. This was crazy to me because  I know so many female hustlers doing their thing. So when I realized that my friends Jazzy and Sara know each other I decided to introduce them. And what better way for me to introduce two movers and shakers than at a Breakfast with Kenny.

So last week we met up at Waffle a spot on Sunset that specializes in.. well..  waffles. Not quite the Waffle House in the South but dope in its own way. Anywhere that serves waffles all day is always a great spot to meet.

Sara Wasserman is my friend who works at sneaker fashion brand Creative Recreation in PR/Marketing. She is one of the reasons Creative Rec has been very visible in the past couple years. She works hard on getting the right celebs involved with the brand as well as creating great brand synergy i.e. Belvedere and Creative Rec. Before her position at Creative Rec she used to work at Skam Artist a DJ management company where she assisted in building the companies client roster amongst other things.

Jazzy Kim I heard about for a wile and we recently met. She is one of the driving forces at the stylish eye wear company Oliver Peoples. Her primary focus the is on the Mosley Tribes brand recently working on co-lab projects with Hellz Bellz and Crooks and Castles. Before this Jazzy was at fashion brand Paul Smith.

So I got these two influential fashionistas together to meet. They had heard of each other, being in similar industries and working on the same street yet they didn’t know one another. With everyone’s crazy schedule we ended up having a very late breakfast, meeting at Waffle at 11:30am. After a brief introduction we ordered…

Sara had the Salmon Omelette

Jazzy had the roast

off_the_chain

and I had chicken and waffles but they were soo damn good I forgot to take a pic sorry

After ordering I presented gifts, new Belve bottles. We then started talking about our pets. We are all dog people Jazzy has 2 bull dogs, Sara has a pit bull and I am the proad step dad of a gangster chiwawa.

We continued to get to know each other as we all discussed that the older you get the more you don’t want to go to the club. We all agreed it really has to be a special ocation to get us out of the house.

I then brought up a project that I wanted both of them to be involved in. This project which you will have to wait for details on involves young fly smart women doing their thing. Sara and Jazzy are both into to the project and began to shear other like-minded women who I should put down with it. Seeing how into it they where confirmed how dope the project will be.

We continued to discuss past work experiences as well as the importance of a good workplace and great leader. Sometimes its not about how much you pay someone to stay loyal its about the quality of their leadership. We see historically that leaders that lead with fear never have the loyalty of those who lead by being fair. Interesting to hear the stories of their careers.

All in all we we realized we all have great jobs that allow us to do a lot of cool things. These are both rising stars and we should keep a close eye on them both. Truly forces behind the scenes and all a round good people. I am excited to work with them on the project, stay tuned. I also hope that the two of them end up doing something together weather its a Creative Rec, Mosley Tribe colab, or girls night out.

Mondays Inspiration: The Side Project

Posted by Kenny Mac | Posted in Inspiration | Posted on 12-10-2009

Here is an example of how starting something just because its a good idea could change the world. Far to many times I hear people say well if its not going to make money I don’t want to do it. I say if it is a good idea and a good project I want to do it. Funny thing is those projects usually end up being worth a lot of money. Here’s a quick video about a companies side project that changed the world. Hope it inspires somebody. Have a good Monday

Jigga Who? What’s Your Opinion?

WOULD JAY Z BE AS BIG OF A DEAL IF 2PAC and B.I.G. WERE STILL ALIVE

With the recent success of Jay-Z a lot has been running through my head. He has been able to make a lot happen over the past 10 years 10 #1 albums, sold out tours, one of the top selling urban clothing lines, countless corporate endorsements and one of the most recognizable labels/brands. I thought back to when I first heard or saw Jay-Z it was in rapper Jaz O’s video Hawaiian Sophie which was heavily influenced by D.C’s Go-Go sound. He also appeared on another one of Jaz O’s songs “The Originators”. Jay was just a kid then. After this Jaz O was out of the light so I thought Jay was a wrap. Growing up in DC in the late 80’s early 90’s I was surrounded by drug dealers and the Hustler Culture. I mean come on our mayor was on crack, literally. I remember watching an old school video show and Hawaiian Sofi came on. One of the guys that was watching with me, who happend to be a hustler said “I know that cat” when Jay came on. This let me know why I wasn’t hearing any more music from Jay at the time.

In college I became a huge B.I.G. fan as well as Bad Boy. My friend Chucky was one of Puffys original producers so I was always hearing new music in his basement. I remember Chucky playing a Jay song that I never heard at the time “In My Lifetime”. However it was through listening to B.I.G that I was put back on to Jay Z. B.I.G was a huge cosigner for Jay. At this time B.I.G was the King of NY and had NY Hip-Hop on his back while out West 2Pac was the raining champ. Jay was relevant but he was definitely in B.I.G’s shadow. As we all know B.I.G and Pac were taken away from us before they even hit their prime. And were were left with out a force in Hip-Hop. That is until Jay Z “found the formula” as he always says. And the rest is history.

So my question to you is would Jay Z be as big as he is now if 2Pac and B.I.G were still alive? Leave a comment and let me know.
